Life Changing Mentors

I was listening to a program recently and the hosts were talking about mentors; specifically about the people in their lifetime that had actually changed their life. What these folks were talking about in most cases was someone that listened to them, valued them, had given them crucial information or a “chance” at something. They went on to say in great detail how that encounter had set them on a specific life changing path.

I started to think back over my life and all the people that had influenced me so profoundly that they shaped who I am today. Who was it that had such power and influence over me that they had actually changed the course of my life? What had I learned from them?

Article Marketing

Iwriter

When you are an entrepreneur of any kind, you typically wear a lot of different hats. Real estate investors in particular spend a lot of time driving around looking at property.  It can be tough to get all of the “in office” tasks done especially when you are still a “one man” or “one woman” shop.

When you’re building a business of any kind, you want to bring awareness to what you do. If you have a website or blog, you will want to do things that will drive traffic to your site.

One of the ways that you can bring awareness to your profession and your business is through article writing. I am talking about articles that you post on sites like Ezine and other popular article sites. It’s pretty easy in the beginning to post an article now and then. But what happens as your business grows and you find you have less and less time for this activity, but you need to be posting more articles than ever?  Perhaps you are launching a product or new service that you want folks to know about. In addition to video which we all know is great, I still like getting quality articles out. Continue reading

Building the Ideal Real Estate Investor’s Buyer’s List

Building Your Buyer's List

A QUALITY BUYERS LIST = CASH IN YOUR POCKET

I have a lot of different types of buyers on my buyer’s list. They have come to me from a variety of different sources. Some of my best people I met at my local REIA group. I found a couple of quality rehabbers for my buyer’s list from BiggerPockets. Yet others have come from sources like bandit signs, Craiglist and finally, from old fashioned networking. Like most real estate investors and especially wholesalers, having a good solid buyer’s list is essential to my business.

18 Minutes Book Review

18 Minutes Book Cover

I have just finished reading a terrific book called “18 Minutes” by Peter Bregman. This book is about how to find your focus, master distraction and get the right things done. This is a daily challenge for many entrepreneurs.

Peter Bregman is a consultant, a national speaker and he writes business columns for the Harvard Business Review, Forbes magazine and other publications. I would say that he has pretty much mastered this whole time management thing in his business. His focus each day is on getting the things done that will help him achieve his annual goals.

He has a lot of great suggestions and here are a few of them.

Finding Your Focus

In his book, Peter says you need to slow down your momentum; to hover above your world. Look around. See things as they really are, beyond what you expect things to be. Focus on your outcome and be open to extraordinary potential. This will help you to tap into resources and talents that you may have forgotten were there.

Ask yourself, what is this year about? What do you want to create? Are there things that are no longer working that you need to let go of? Continue reading

Should You Allow Pets In Your Rental Property

This has been a subject that has been debated for as long as I can remember; whether or not to allow your tenants to have pets. What I have always found, is that it really doesn’t matter what your policy is. They are probably going to bring them whether or not you actually allow pets.

When I bought my first couple of rental properties, I was very clear that I didn’t want pets in my houses. I didn’t want to have to replace the carpet after each tenant because of pet damage. It was always in the lease, and I always discussed my policy with the tenants. I learned pretty quickly, that there is a segment of the population that will agree to anything in the lease while they continue to do whatever they want to do.

Pet Damage
